Nazi Zombies was at first intended to be a mini-game. A last minute add-on. It turned into much more. This is the true story of Nazi Zombies.
It all started on a dark night in an abandoned German fort. Nothing was expected from this mini-game. It became surprisingly popular, so in the next DLC for World At War, a new zombies map was put in. It was called Verruckt, which is German for Crazy. It took place in a German Asylum near Berlin, this time including perks.
Then came Shi No Numa, with Japanese zombies. Element 115 was introduced, coming to earth in the form of meteorites. It was revealed this is what caused the dead to rise again.
Then, there was Der Riese. A German factory in Berlin run by the Group 935, a Nazi scientist group whose main focus was creating an undead army. More than a dozen easter eggs came form this map, and it is likely the most popular map to date.
Verruckt. This was a Group 935 facility which was a former Asylum. Element 115, which causes the zombies to be zombies, is used to power the perks, which give the character a special ability by drinking the Element. The four marines were sent to here to rescue Peter McCain, an American spy sent to infiltrate Group 935. But when he was not found, they had to fight the zombies. It is revealed in Black Ops that one marine lost his mind in Verruckt. The only one who survived was the group leader, Tank Dempsey. He was captured and experimented on at the Der Riese facility, the element wiping his memory of how he got there. Takeo and Nikolai had similar fates. Dr. Richtofen, who was an assistant to Dr Maxis (Head scientist at Der Riese, the Group 935 stronghold) was really a member of the Illuminati, a secret society whose members were planted in place of power so that the society can control the world like it was their puppet. Maxis becomes suspicious of Richtofen, who he believes is crazy.
Group 935′s main goal was creating an army of the undead for Hitler. But the zombies were unable to be controlled, and tests failed. They also developed wonder weapons, the most successful the Wunderwaffe DG-2, which was meant to be mass-produced and sent to the Wehrmacht, the German army. They also developed teleporters. One day while testing the teleporters on Dr Maxis’ daughter’s pregnant dog, the test went bezerk as it gave birth, causing the dogs to randomly spawn in balls of electricity. Dr Richtofen then betrays his boss and Samantha, his boss’ daughter, by locking them in the room with the hellhounds where they are murdered. Richtofen then teleports away, as Der Riese becomes overrun with the undead. Richtofen was upset with Maxis because he did not mass produce the Wunderwaffe and did not support his research on teleporting. Maxis didn’t mass produce it because he was distracted by his secretary, Sophia.
Somehow, the 4 end up at Shi No Numa, another Group 935 stronghold and a Japanese scientist base. The Ray gun is revealed to have been designed here, but it was perfected at Der Riese by Maxis. Somehow they get to Der Riese where they fight the zombies there. Peter is revealed to have died in Shi No Numa, committing suicide to prevent being killed by zombies.
When the four attempt to use the main teleporter at Der Riese, the Wonderwaffe overrides the teleporter, causing it to send them through time into another Group 935 stronghold in Berlin, a Nazi theater. It takes place in the 1960′s during the Cold War. After fighting off the zombies there, the group is sent to a Soviet Cosmodrome. At the same time, the Pentagon has been overrun with zombies after the Americans had taken much of the Group 935 research after the end of WWII.
A Russian scientist who was driven insane by Samantha’s spirit, caused the zombies to invade the Ascension facility, where a group of former Nazi scientists worked for the Russians at the end of the war by activating a machine that unleashes the zombies and Samantha into the world. Richtofen teleports the gang there to power the Kassimir mechanism as the first step in Richtofen’s final plot.
The next step in his plot is to get the Vril Generator, located at an abandoned Group 935 base on the Siberian coast. But somehow they get teleported too far into the future, and end up at a filming for a movie directed by George Romero. The actors, who were fending off the zombies, helped get the generator to Richtofen and send them to “Paradise”
Paradise is a lost city in Vietnam, called Shangri-La. Here the characters can travel to the past to save two British explorers searching for Shangri-La, and Richtofen searches for the Focusing Stone, a giant Element 115 meteor which he plans to shrink with the new wonder weapon. After saving the explorers, who are trapped in a never ending time loop, the group travel to Griffin Station, an American base on the Moon.
On Moon, Richtofen plans to finish his plan by fusing the Vril generator and the focusing stone together, and uses it to free Samantha, who was trapped in a pyramid on Earth. He then switches souls with Sam, giving him control of the zombies, which was his master plan. Dr. Maxis, now a spirit, then directs the players to fire rockets at Earth , damaging all areas infected with 115, killing all zombies and saving the world from Richtofen.
